My 5 Days Aboard Rascal
I am finally back from three weeks in Indonesia, and people keep asking me the same question: "What was the highlight of your entire trip?"
The answer is always the same: R…A…S…C…A…L
To say it was a ten out of ten experience is an understatement.
Barefoot Luxury at it’s Best
Imagine a traditional handcrafted Phinisi boat but with a bright, Hamptons style beach house interior. Unlike most boats in Indonesia, every single cabin is above deck. I woke up every morning to ocean views right from my bed. The environment is casual (I don’t think I wore shoes once in 5 days!) yet the service and design are top notch!
Everything at the property is curated perfectly, from the locally sourced meals and fun signature cocktails to the top notch spa treatments and traditional Tibetan healer (booking a visit with him is a must). But it’s what’s curated for you off property that will BLOW YOUR MIND. All excursions are custom tailored to your interests, whether you want more strenuous activity (or less), or really love history and culture.
Our Journey at a Glance
Day 1:
The Arrival
After a direct flight from Bali, I boarded in Sorong and set sail for the remote islands of Misool in the most marine diverse place in the world, Raja Ampat.
Day 2:
Dolphins and Lagoons
I spent the morning swimming with wild dolphins, followed by a nap on deck and an exploration of the iconic Love Lagoon. We ended the night with a spectacular Chinese New Year dinner.
Day 3:
Beach Club
The diving here is world class. After a morning underwater, we the crew set up our own private beach club right on the sand. The day ended with sunset canapes on the top deck.
Day 5:
The Final Farewell
Waking up for one last sunrise on the water before heading home. So sad to leave this amazing crew.
Day 4:
The Ultimate Office
I spent the morning working from the boat - truly the best office view on earth. Later, we swam with stingless jellyfish in a hidden lagoon and shared a final, unforgettable beach dinner under the stars.
You can choose to charter the whole boat (5 cabins) or book a single cabin on a shared departure. A cabin for two starts at $2,500 a night, but the best part is… everything I’ve mentioned is included in the rate (the diving, the food, the laundry, everything!). In a world where hotel rates are climbing to $2K, $3K, $4K plus a night, an experience like this has so much more value!
A Heartfelt Thank You
What truly made this voyage meaningful was the crew. Their warmth and genuine care created such an effortless sense of comfort. A special shout out to the Marine Biologist on board, Lisa, is necessary. Having only just got my diving certification last year, I felt completely safe and supported through every dive.
Two more things to mention:
1. You do NOT have to dive to enjoy this experience. The snorkeling is just as impressive!
2. Kids would absolutely LOVE it. Doing a charter as a family or joining a family focused shared voyage would be epic!
